This book is a great explanation as to why some diets work for some people and why some diets literally kill those who try them out. Wolcott and Fahey group people into three basic categories: There's a quiz in the middle of the book to help you identify which type you are, along with other follow-up quizzes and self-tests to further refine your own diet and food reactions.

While I liked what Wolcott and Fahey have to say about diets and their emphasis on discovering what works best for you, the lack of citations bothered me. I wanted to see where they were getting their information and numbers. There were a few in text references to previous research, but not a single footnote or endnote. So, though I personally agree with their hypothesis, I'm not sure I'd go touting this book as a revolutionary work since the science just isn't there.

Pretty good. I've been looking for a book that talks about what seems intuitive to me, that different diets should be ideally healthful for different people.

The quiz is long but revealing. Turns out I shouldn't be eating some of my favorite foods, and I would know that if I just paid attention to my energy and cravings a few hours after eating meals that contain them. I would have given it five stars if it weren't for the query I had. I learned that I am a person who processes protein and fats much more easily than carbohydrates, and as such I need to be eating much more meat, and greens, and much less carbs and sugars. This seems intuitively true. I am going to g Some iffy points in the book where it seems like the author was being critical of the fact that the world has become so genetically mixed? I am going to give it a go. The Metabolic Typing Diet is different from most diet books in that regard.

I walked away having a broader and more indepth understanding of this very important subject. The pages of this book are filled with indepth information and delve into the depths of metabolic typing and all its functions. It is so well written and straight-forward that I sit and wonder how I got by all these years without this interesting and extremely pertinent material.

You learn all about the nine fundamental homeostatic controls, which I found more than interesting.

Could've been a worse read, and the quiz really made me thing about my eating habits and what works best for my diet and metabolism. But getting deeper into the issues for my mixed metabolism, the author claims that you'll reach a level of healthy eating that'll make counting calories unnecessary. Like apparently if you finally find the right combination of foods for your type, you won't have cravings any more and you lose weight.

But if you're a serious binger, or morbidly obese, it's not going to work out for you. You MUST count calories. Would you tell a diabetic that they don't need to take their blood sugar tests as long as they avoid sugar and only eat kale and tofu?

I absolutely loved this book. To be honest, I had been introduced to this idea many years ago but had never really taken it seriously. The carbo type plan at roughly 20 percent protein, 20 percent fats, and 60 percent carbs is within the range. And the mixed type is at the high end of the range for both protein and fat, and skimps on carbs.

There is no calorie counting in the metabolic typing diet, which Wolcott cites as a benefit. The theory goes that once you are eating the foods that are right for your type, you will not be hungry between meals or crave unhealthy foods that don't work for your body.

USDA guidelines, however, recommend limiting calories to promote weight loss. Your daily calorie intake target will depend on your age, sex, weight, and activity level. This calculator helps you determine a manageable goal.
